The 2026 edition of WWE Backlash, also known as Backlash: Tampa, is set to take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, featuring superstars from both the Raw and SmackDown brand divisions.The event will be available to watch on traditional pay-per-view worldwide, as well as on ESPN’s direct-to-consumer streaming service in the United States, Netflix in most international markets, SuperSport in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Abema in Japan.

This marks the first ever Backlash to stream on ESPN in the United States. Themed around the explosive fallout from WrestleMania 42, Backlash 2026 promises to be one of the most stacked premium live events of the entire year. To avoid clashing with UFC 328, Backlash will begin at a special start time of 6:00 PM Eastern Time.

In what is set to be a deeply personal collision, Jacob Fatu will challenge his cousin Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship. Fatu stepped up on Raw following his impressive victory over Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 42, immediately asserting his dominance by locking in the sacred Tongan Death Grip on Reigns, a move so powerful that even The Usos felt he had crossed a line. This is not just a championship match but a battle for power, loyalty, and the future of the Bloodline itself.

Trick Williams will put the United States Championship on the line against Sami Zayn in a highly anticipated rematch from WrestleMania 42. Since WrestleMania, Zayn has fully embraced a new dangerous edge, making him an extremely threatening challenger heading into Tampa. Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker will also finally settle their intense rivalry one-on-one at Backlash, after Breakker cost Rollins his World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther at WrestleMania 42.

Former Damage CTRL stablemates and longtime friends Asuka and IYO SKY will collide in what promises to be an emotionally charged matchup, carrying the weight of over a decade of shared history, including their time together in Japan as part of Triple Tails, where Asuka served as Sky’s mentor.
